Description:
This cluster has an extremely dense core that has undergone "core collapse".   A few stars can be resolved around the edges.   The similar-looking cluster M69 can also be seen in the same field with binoculars.   Comet Hale-Bopp was discovered independently by Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp while they were observing this cluster in July 1995.
